5 Steps to Your Dream Home

Integrated Designs • Jun 02, 2021

Building your dream home may seem like just that, a dream, but if you plan it out, you can make it a reality. All you need to do is come up with a plan and then follow the steps until you reach it.

Here are five steps to building your dream home.

Step One: Create a Budget

How much money will you need in order to build your dream home? While you won’t know exactly how much until you have it designed, starting with a budget is helpful in setting your goals. Look at the cost of building a home similar to what you want and then fill in your budget.

Once you have a total amount, you can break it down by month so you know how much money you need to save each month for the selected amount of time.

Step Two: Make a Timeline

Your timeline will determine how much you need to save each month. Be realistic about this. You may want your house ready to move into by the end of the year, but that’s not necessarily practical. Plan for the time you’ll need to save the money and then figure out how long it will take to actually build the home. Don’t forget that it usually takes longer than anticipated to complete a building.

Step Three: Design Your Home

Before you can build anything, you need a house design. You should have a good idea of everything you want in your dream home so you can convey this to your architect. The architect will design your home, using the information you’ve provided to ensure you have a beautiful house within your budget.

Step Four: Hire a Contractor

Once you’re ready to start building, you’ll want to hire a contractor or a building company to get your home built. They will be responsible for following the architect’s plan and ensuring the house is built properly, to your specifications.

The contractor is responsible for bringing in specialists, as well. So if you need a plumber or electrician, they will handle that to make sure the house is built, wired, and plumbed correctly.

Step Five: Build Your Home

Your house is now in progress and all you need to do is check in on a regular basis and make the decisions required about finishing touches. The dream is finally achievable and made possible by following all the steps as you move through your plan.
