Factors to Consider When Planning Architectural Work

Integrated Designs • Jan 02, 2020
So, you’d like to extend your home, build a property from scratch or have work done on your commercial premises, but have you considered the most important factors? Architectural work requires proper planning to ensure the job is completed to the highest standard and on the right side of the law, so always take the time to research all avenue of the project.

So, which factors should you consider? Read on to find out more.

Budget
Cost is one of the most important factors to consider in any project. Although you may have a budget in mind, it’s easy to forget about the many expenses you need to cover. Hiring a professional architect will help you finalise a realistic budget and identify areas where you may need to cut costs or increase your budget. Your budget should cover the materials, payment of construction workers and architects, materials and any relevant documentation or legal processes you may need to complete.

Time frame
If you want to build an entire house within a month, then you’ve not set a sensible time frame. It’s important that everyone involved in the project agrees on your mutual goal and does all they can to meet the deadline. It’s a good idea to create a timeline that you can refer to at each stage, this will ensure that everyone is on the same page and aware of their goals and objectives.

Planning permission
If you are looking to make significant changes to your home, commercial property or build something from scratch, you may need planning permission. Getting permission from the council can be long-winded, however, you should never go ahead with the build without the authority to proceed as this could result in legal problems further down the line.

Workforce
Depending on the type of architectural work you’re having done, it’s likely that you will need help from external sources in the form of builders, engineers, general contractors, interior designers, landscapers and more.
