Iconic Pieces of Architecture in Birmingham

Integrated Designs • Oct 28, 2019
Here at Integrated Designs & Associates Ltd, we’re proud to be based in Birmingham. We have many amazing buildings right on our doorstep. So, we thought we would take a look at some of our favourite architectural sites from around our great city.

We hope that this helps to give you an idea of some of the buildings you should keep an eye out for around Birmingham. Though, in our opinion, the best way to find great architecture is to get out there and start exploring.

Library of Birmingham
Who said Libraries are boring? Well, they haven’t seen the Library of Birmingham. The library was hailed as a flagship project for redevelopment across the entire city. We think that this amazing building makes a real statement.

The Library itself cost an estimated £188.8 million and is the largest public library in the whole of the UK. The postmodern design is sure to stop you in your tracks, with both the design and the 60-metre height of the building making sure that it’s an unmissable sight.

The library itself is home to an astonishing 800,000 books. So, if you love architecture and books, this is the place for you.

Bullring
Although a feature of Birmingham for hundreds of years, it’s the shopping centre opened in 2003 that most excites us. Seen as one of the first examples of ‘blobtecture’, the £60 million building is another award-winning piece of modern architecture.

The building itself is home to one of only four Selfridges department stores. Though there’s plenty of shopping and dining experiences available in this astounding building, so it definitely comes with our recommendation.

Methodist Central Hall
We don’t just love the modern architecture of Birmingham. Here in Birmingham, we also have plenty of amazing historical buildings. One of our favourites is the Methodist Central Hall. The striking red terracotta brick design really sets it apart from almost any building around Birmingham.

The street-level front is now accompanied by shops. Though, we like the way that this shows the different sides of Birmingham, with the old meeting the new. In the present day, the hall has been utilised for live music, DJ’s, and social occasions.
